Open Textbooks

Open textbooks are textbooks released under an open license that permits their free use and re-purposing. The textbooks are freely available online, although they may also be printed if preferred. Health Education Assets Library
The Health Education Assets Library (HEAL) is a collection of over 22,000 freely available digital materials for health sciences education. The collection is now housed at the University of Utah J. Willard Marriott Digital Library.
MedEdPortal
MedEdPORTAL is a MEDLINE-indexed, open-access journal of teaching and learning resources in the health professions published by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). MedEdPORTAL publications are stand-alone, complete teaching or learning modules that have been implemented and evaluated with physician trainees or practitioners. Each submission is reviewed by editorial staff and external peer reviewers.
Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Resource Library
This resource includes a variety of online education tools (conference presentations, PowerPoint lectures, audio and video, digital images, etc.) related to family medicine.
e-VIP
e-VIP is a database of over 300 electronic virtual patients developed by nine universities and MedBiquitous Europe and co-funded by the European Commission. The e-VIPs are available under Creative Commons licenses.

Open RN YouTube Channel
This YouTube channel has over 120 simulation-related videos, including simulated patients, nurse handoff reports, and interdisciplinary reports that can be used by faculty to create their own online simulations and learning activities. Based on these videos, twelve OER H5P branching scenarios were created that promote the development of safe clinical judgement.

The Anatomy Video and Imagery Diversity (AVID) is a database of freely available original images and videos that properly showcase the range of human diversity and that are of sufficient detail and quality to support excellent anatomical teaching across multiple disciplines and levels of learner expertise. We aim to better represent the diversity of people in the population by reflecting different genders, people of different skin tones, body sizes, and compositions, and to provide access to resources that are currently severely lacking in higher education.

OpenStax
OpenStax is a nonprofit educational initiative based at Rice University. This collection of 34 textbooks covers some of the basic introductory classes in the maths, sciences and social sciences. The books have all been peer reviewed.
Pressbooks Directory
A free, searchable catalogue of over 6,500 open access books.
LibreTexts
LibreText is a not-for-profit organization committed to creating and distributing OER. The LibreText libraries include almost 400 OER.
Open Education Alberta

The Mason OER Metafinder searches well-known OER repositories like OpenStax, OER Commons, and MERLOT, as well as often-overlooked sites like HathiTrust, DPLA, Internet Archive and NYPL Digital Collections. Given the many “standards” of metadata in the OER universe, we can’t guarantee that every item retrieved is “Open” in the strictest interpretation of that term…so make it a practice to check the rights of any item you use.
