Makerspace

The RDP Makerspace is a place to learn through exploration, innovation, and creation.

Code of Conduct

Makerspace users agree that:

  • The Makerspace is inclusive of all users, from beginners to experts. 
  • The Makerspace is a place of learning. Sometimes things will not work, and that’s ok. 
  • Racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination will not be tolerated in the Makerspace. 
  • The Makerspace is accessible to Red Deer Polytechnic students, faculty, staff, and the community.  
  • The Makerspace is a collaborative and fun place, but please be courteous of those working nearby and others waiting to use the spaces and equipment.

Makerspace users will: 

  • Follow all guidelines and the direction of the Makerspace Technicians.
  • Treat Makerspace equipment and technology with respect. If a tool or piece of equipment is not working correctly, notify the staff.
  • Clean up after themselves and return spaces, equipment, and software to its original state.
  • Be accompanied by an adult if under the age of 18.
  • Not bring food into the Makerspace. Beverages in covered containers are okay. 
  • Report all accidents, injuries, or incidents to the Makerspace Technicians. 
  • Ask for help if needed.

Use of Makerspace Equipment

The equipment in the RDP Makerspace may be used only for lawful purposes. Makerspace services are offered in a non-commercial capacity.  Mass quantity printouts will be referred to a commercial company or RDP's Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing - Technology Access Centre (CIM-TAC). RDP reserves the right to refuse any submission.

Makerspace equipment cannot be used to create:

  1. Anything prohibited by provincial or federal law.
  2. Anything that is unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or which poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
  3. A weapon, in part or whole, or any object that can be mistaken for a weapon.
  4. Drug paraphernalia.
  5. In violation of the intellectual property rights of others. For example, reproducing material that is subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection.
  6. Anything that is lewd, malicious, or otherwise unsuitable for creating a welcoming and inclusive public space.
