As a student, you are responsible for knowing what actions or behaviours are considered academic misconduct, as described in the Students’ Rights & Responsibilities Policy, Appendix A: Types of Academic Misconduct. You have learned about many things on this list by completing this tutorial!
However, if an instructor believes that academic misconduct has occurred, the process for investigating this accusation is governed by the Academic Misconduct Procedure. You will have the right to a fair investigation and support during the process, and will be given a chance to respond to the accusation.
However, if the evidence shows that you have committed academic misconduct, there are several possible penalties, ranging from a written warning or failing an assignment, to being expelled from RDP. The penalty will depend upon the severity of the misconduct, if the misconduct was deliberate or accidental, or if there are multiple allegations.
The best solution is to understand your responsibilities, and make use of the help and support available so that academic misconduct does not happen in the first place.

Red Deer Polytechnic recognizes that our campus is situated on Treaty 7 land, the traditional territory of the Blackfoot, Tsuu T’ina and Stoney Nakoda peoples, and that the central Alberta region we serve falls under Treaty 6, traditional Métis, Cree and Saulteaux territory. We honour the First Peoples who have lived here since time immemorial, and we give thanks for the land where RDP sits. This is where we will strive to honour and transform our relationships with one another.
