Presentation Guidelines

While the APA manual does not have formal rules on how to format your citations in presentations, you can still follow the APA style guidelines.

Here are some basic guidelines to follow for an APA presentation:

  • You still need to include in-text citations for any information or materials that are not original to you. Simply format these as you would for a normal in-text citation (as seen below), or include the in-text citation in the corner of the slide.
Examples
Johnston (2025) states that, "the Nursing library guide is an excellent resource for finding reputable websites, databases, and open images."
Online library guides can help students quickly find the resources they need to succeed and complete their assignments (Johnston, 2025).
  • Include the same information on your title slide that you would for the title page of your paper.
  • The last slide in your presentation deck should be your References slide. If you have lots of references, use multiple slides.
  • While using clip art from programs like Microsoft Word or PowerPoint usually does not require a citation, permission or copyright attribution (see section 12.15 in the APA manual for more information); we recommend that you still acknowledge where the image is from and that the image is not your own.
    • For example, mention that the image is "supplied" by the software.

Remember: always check with your instructor about their expectations for your presentation.
