The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning is ‘a systematic inquiry into student learning, grounded in context, methodologically sound, [ideally] conducted in partnership with students and appropriately public” (Felten, 2013).
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning projects follow the same scholarship standards used in any research project. Glassick (2000) outlines six standards:
- Defines clear objectives and identify important questions in the field.
- Demonstrates adequate preparation by showing an understanding of the existing literature and assembling the necessary resources to move the research project forward.
- Selects and applies appropriate research methods that align with define objectives and adapts them when needed.
- Demonstrates significant results by achieving intended objectives, contributes meaningful insights to the field, opens new possibilities for further exploration.
- Ensures effective presentation and clear communication of findings using appropriate formats and venues for the intended audiences.
- Engages in reflective critique by assessing their own work by drawing on a broad range of relevant evidence, uses insights to improve enhance of future work.
