Post-Secondary Barriers, Belongingness, and Well-Being: Informing Campus Mental Health Strategy Through Student Perspectives is a student research project being conducted by 4th year psychology students Star Clynes and Amalia Uliniuc (supervised by Dr. Anomi Bearden and Dr. Jamie Prowse Turner).

This study will use focus groups to gather RDP student perspectives on experiences with existing campus supports, barriers that impact academic success and well-being, suggestions for improvements in student services and supports, and ways to foster stronger campus connections and sense of belonging. Collaborators are Tanya Lyons-Belt (Manager of Student Supports), RDP Counselling Centre, and Dr. Krista Robson (Sociology Instructor and RDP Lead on Post-Secondary Student Homelessness Research Project).

This research will supplement the Canadian Campus Well-being Survey (CCWS) and will help to inform Red Deer Polytechnic’s Student Mental Health Strategy from 2024 to 2027. Focus groups will take approximately 1 hour and participants will be given a $5.00 Tim Hortons gift card and be entered into a draw to win one of three wellness gift baskets valued at $50.00 each.
